We are located in the heart of the Abel Tasman National Park with no road access! By Sea Marahau to Awaroa Lodge Travel Time: charter up to 1 hour Water Taxi for chartered or scheduled services Contact Abel Tasman Aqua Taxi 03 527 8083 Scheduled services (scenic scheduled trip - 1.5 hours) Marahau to Awaroa - daily departures at 9.00am and 1.30pm Awaroa to Marahau - daily departures at 10.30am and 3.00pm by road Nelson to Marahau Travel Time: 1hour approximately As there is no road access to Awaroa Lodge you will need to drive your own car, hire a rental vehicle or use the coach services from Nelson city to Marahau. Coaches connect with the Aqua Taxi at Marahau, where there is secure parking for the duration of your stay at the lodge. By Sea kayak Kayak the Abel Tasman coastline to Awaroa. From Totaranui is approximately 45 minutes however from Marahau it is 2 days and is only recommended for the very experienced. For one, two or three day kayak adventures which will enable you to reach Awaroa Lodge contact Peter or Maureen at the Sea Kayak Company 03 528 7251. Water taxi companies can transport your kayak and you part of the way. Helicopter Tasman Helicopters offer a charter service from Nelson, Motueka and Wellington. Contact: Andrew Gillat Tasman Helicopters. Plane Flights direct to Awaroa airstrip from Nelson, Motueka and Wellington. Contact: Vincent at Abel Tasman Air 03 528 8850 Tony McComb at Flight Corporation 03 547 8175 On foot Walk the famous Abel Tasman track from either Marahau or Totaranui. From Totaranui it is important for trampers to note that if crossing Awaroa Estuary this must be commenced between one and 1/2 half hours before and two hours after low tide. From the Marahau end there is a narrow estuary channel at Onetahuti Beach, which may be crossed at approximately three hours either side of low tide. To plan your walking excursion and estuary crossing, visit Land Information New Zealand's site for tide times. To access information choose Nelson at the port, and subtract 20 minutes to give you a more accurate tide timetable for the Abel Tasman National Park and Awaroa area.
