Temple Basin Ski Area
Temple Basin is a high alpine ski-field that sits right on the Main Divide of the Southern Alps, in the middle Arthurs Pass National Park. It is a club field, which means that it is very casual and friendly with mostly local skiers and snow-boarders and no queues.
Terrain: Temple Basin has 320 hectares of skiable terrain with a vertical rise of 430m. The highest point (B’limit) stands at 1923 and the ski area looks out over Mt Rolleston at 2275m. The terrain caters for all abilities from beginners to the most daredevil experts. There are 3 nutcracker rope tows that service an unlimited number of runs. There is a natural terrain park throughout the area and surroundings with chutes, bowls and half pipes. There is also night skiing where the main tow is flood lit.
Snow: Because of its position on the Main Divide of the Southern Alps, Temple Basin receives its weather from the West, and often has more snow than other areas. It also faces the northwest therefore it gets all-day sun. The average snowfall is 11.5 metres.
On Field Accommodation: There are two modern and comfortable lodges with mains electricity that can sleep up to 120 people. These are the only residential buildings in the area and are situated right beside the main tow. The lodge facilities include drying room, hot showers, large cooking and dining facilities, canteen, bar, telephone, medical facilities and wireless internet access. There are also soundproof conference rooms (with OHP, slide projector, TV, VCR, white board, chairs and tables) that provide excellent teaching facilities.
Temple Basin specialises in ski and snowboard packages of any length which include on field accommodation, all food, lift passes and for the 7 day package, lessons.
