An illusion gallery, zipline tours high above the forest canopy and Christchurch hotels are amongst the new and innovative New Zealand tourism products that will be on show to the world’s travel and tourism Buyers at TRENZ 2013, Auckland 21-24 April.

Managed by the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand, TRENZ is the $23.4 billion NZ tourism industry’s most important international showcase. This year around 250 New Zealand tourism operators will be hoping to clinch business deals with the 290 international Buyers who are attending from around the world.

“These Buyers are very influential. In total they have told us they expect to send about 700,000 visitors to New Zealand over the coming year, over half our holiday arrivals,” says TIA Chief Executive Martin Snedden. “Tourism is a hugely competitive international business so it’s vital we show them fresh and exciting new products and visitor experiences.”

At TRENZ 2013 they will discover 52 new tourism products, including 16 tourism operators who are exhibiting at the big international trade event for the first time.

They include first-time TRENZ Exhibitor Rotoura Canopy Tours, in business for less than a year and hoping to make a positive impression on the international Buyers.

“We take visitors deep into pristine native bush where they experience 1.2km of ziplines, flying foxes, treetop swing bridges and treetop platforms. It’s a powerful combination of adventure and conservation, something we hope will firmly establish us on the leading edge of eco-tourism in New Zealand,” says Director James Fitzgerald.

“Our goal for TRENZ is to ensure the market has a good understand of what we do – that we are far more than a zipline tour. We also want to show that Rotorua is stepping up with a number of new innovative businesses that are redefining what this destination offers.”

TRENZ sponsor and Exhibitor Accor Hotels has a range of exciting new products to take to this year’s event, says John Farrell, Director Sales & Marketing, New Zealand and Australia.

“The industry is naturally anxious about new product opening in Christchurch, and we are very pleased to announce that a Novotel will open in September in the heart of Cathedral Square, joining the Ibis, which opened in September 2012. We will also present our new Sofitel Wellington, which is currently under construction, and launch our Optimum Service Standards for the Chinese market,” says Mr Farrell.

“We expect TRENZ 2013 to play a crucial role in our inbound market promotion. This is always an outstanding event, attracting some of the world’s most important clients for New Zealand. We believe this is a crucial investment in the country’s tourism industry.”

Wanaka’s Puzzling World will be promoting its biggest project in over a decade to TRENZ Buyers, a $2.5 million extension that includes a new gallery of illusionary sculptures.

“We’re very excited to be able to utilise TRENZ 2013 to showcase The Sculptillusion Gallery to clients,” says Marketing Manager Duncan Spear. “It features over 20 large sculptures, artworks and displays and the building itself offers illusionary aspects within its design such as a wave ceiling and hanging waterfalls.”

Amongst the other 52 new products that will be on show at TRENZ are:

  • Kelly Tarlton’s on-the-ice encounters with penguins
  • Hobbiton Movie Set’s Green Dragon Inn, a replica of the interior from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies
  • Skyline Skygazing Tours with Skyline Queenstown
  • Maori Tours Kaikoura, coach tours combining storytelling, bush walks and hands-on activities such as weaving.
