Classic New Zealand Wine Trail

The Classic New Zealand Wine Trail is a 380km journey of pure indulgence, relaxation and discovery, ideal for any wine lover. Best completed in six days or more, the trail traverses New Zealand's lower North Island and upper South Island, taking in the world famous wine regions of Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa and Marlborough.

Hawke's Bay

Sunny Hawke's Bay is typically renowned for 2 things: Napier, the 'Art Deco Capital of the World' & the region's outstanding red wines. But stay a while in the area and, in addition to the brilliant Art Deco tours & vineyard excursions, you'll soon discover the cultural attractions, wildlife wonders & gourmet delights the region offers.

The Tararua region will give you a taste of the 'real' New Zealand: rugged ranges, remote coastlines, bush-clad valleys and true-blue Kiwi towns. Enjoy bush walks, horse rides, jet boating and quad biking; experience New Zealand's unique wildlife at Pukaha Mt Bruce, and stop for a drink at the iconic Tui Brewery in Mangatainoka.

Home to New Zealand's first planned inland town, the Wairarapa is a hub of history & viticulture. Martinborough, Greytown, Gladstone & Masterton offer delectable artisan food & boutique wines, superb shopping & sightseeing. At nearby Cape Palliser you'll find coastal walks, a historic lighthouse & an entertaining fur seal colony.

New Zealand's capital is a lively urban paradise. Despite its small size, Wellington offers all the big-city perks including a top notch selection of wine bars, restaurants and cafes. Also known as NZ's cultural capital, Wellington houses Te Papa, our national museum & a smorgasboard of world class theatrical & musical shows.

After the spectacular Cook Strait crossing take time to explore the unforgettable Marlborough Sounds before venturing to the region's 50+ wineries. Famed for its Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough is one of NZ's sunniest places - perfect  for cycling through the vineyards, or dining al fresco with a glass of local wine in Blenheim.
